Operating Instructions for the BC28R Bike Light

Switches

Upper switch: Main switch for turning the front light on/off and selecting the front light output.

Lower switch: Used for controlling the rear light and its smart-link functions.

On/Off

Press and hold the upper switch for approximately 0.5 seconds to turn the front light on/off.

Press and hold the lower switch to turn the rear light on/off.

Output Selection

With the front light switched on, single click the upper switch to cycle through the available output levels.

The BC28R front light provides a maximum output of 2500 lumens and a maximum beam distance of 180 metres.

Rear Light Output Selection

With the rear light switched on, single click the rear light switch to cycle through the available lighting modes:

Constant-on → Slow Flash → Fast Flash

The rear light provides a maximum output of 20 lumens with wide-angle red light coverage.

Smart Pairing

Before first use, the BC28R front and rear lights must be paired.

1. Press and hold the rear light switch for approximately 5 seconds to enter pairing mode.
2. The rear light indicator will flash red and green alternately.
3. Single click the lower switch on the front light.
4. The rear light indicator will turn solid green to indicate that the signal from the front light has been received.
5. Single click the rear light switch again to confirm the pairing.
6. Pairing is now complete.

After successful pairing, the front light will automatically remember the paired rear light and repeated pairing is normally unnecessary.

Note: The straight-line distance between the front and rear lights should not exceed 1.5 metres during pairing. If there is no operation within 60 seconds, the lights will automatically exit pairing mode.

Smart Linked Control

Once the front and rear lights have been paired, the rear light can be controlled directly using the lower switch on the front light.

The front light also displays the current rear-light mode status in real time, allowing the rider to confirm whether the rear light is operating in constant-on, slow-flashing or fast-flashing mode.

Intelligent Memory Circuit

The front light memorizes the previously selected output level and will recall the previously used output when switched on again.

The rear light also retains its selected lighting mode when operated normally.

Battery Specifications

The BC28R front light is powered by one replaceable Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 rechargeable Li-ion battery. The rear light has a built-in 400mAh rechargeable battery.

Warning: Only use the recommended Fenix ARB-L21 Series batteries. Using incompatible batteries may affect performance and could create safety risks.

Battery Replacement

1. Unscrew the tail cap of the front light.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Insert the replacement battery according to the polarity markings.
4. Screw the tail cap back on securely.

Charging the BC28R

1. Switch off the light and open the USB Type-C charging port cover.
2. Connect the USB Type-C charging cable to the charging port.
3. Connect the other end of the cable to a compatible power source.
4. The indicator will display red while charging.
5. The indicator will turn green when charging is complete.
6. Close the charging-port cover securely after charging.

The normal charging time for the front light is approximately 3.5 hours from fully depleted to fully charged. The rear light takes approximately 1.5 hours. Both lights can be operated while charging.

Note:

• The front light supports charging at up to 15W (5V/3A).
• The rear light supports charging at up to 2.5W (5V/0.5A).
• Recharge a stored light every four months to maintain optimum battery performance.

Battery Level Indication

The front light features a battery level indicator that provides information about the remaining battery level.

The battery level indication function is designed for use with Fenix ARB-L21 Series batteries. With other batteries, the battery indication may be inaccurate or may not display correctly.

Low-Voltage Warning

When the battery voltage drops below the preset level, the BC28R will automatically reduce the brightness to help extend battery life.

Recharge or replace the battery as soon as possible when the battery level becomes low.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The front light will generate heat when operated at high output levels for extended periods.

When the light reaches its preset temperature threshold, it will automatically reduce output to lower the temperature.

Once the temperature decreases, higher output levels can be selected again.

Anti-Glare Cut-Off Beam

The BC28R features an anti-glare cut-off beam that directs light onto the road ahead while reducing glare for oncoming cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

This controlled beam pattern provides better road visibility while making the light suitable for commuting and road cycling.

Usage and Maintenance

• Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
• Fenix recommends using only compatible, high-quality batteries.
• If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery from the front light for proper storage.
• Lock or otherwise prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
• Recharge stored rechargeable batteries every four months to maintain optimum battery performance.
• Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the O-ring with an approved spare.
• Periodically clean the battery contacts and conductive contact points. Dirty contacts may cause the light to flicker, shine intermittently or fail to illuminate.
• If the light flickers or fails to illuminate, first check the battery level and recharge or replace the battery if necessary.
• Clean dirty contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

Warning

• This bicycle light is a high-intensity lighting device capable of causing eye damage. Avoid shining the light directly into anyone’s eyes.
• The light can accumulate significant heat when used at high output levels for extended periods. Take care when handling the light to avoid burns.
• Do not shine the light at objects from extremely close range for extended periods, as the concentrated light and heat may cause damage.
• The LED is not user-replaceable. The entire light should be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its service life.
• Ensure the USB Type-C charging port is properly closed when the light is exposed to water.
